宫崎吾郎在物色主题歌演唱者的时候，监制铃木敏夫什么都没说就给了他一份DEMO
他听了DEMO以后，一下子就被那个清冷而又有着奇妙的孤独感的歌声所吸引住了
听着她的歌声，他觉得自己仿佛正站在微风吹拂的山丘上，感受着这个大自然似的
于是，几乎就在那一刻，宫崎吾郎就决定了主题歌的演唱者 —— 18岁的手嶌葵
接着因为剧中女主角テルー也会有一些唱歌的场景，并且有插曲「テルーの呗」
而手嶌葵声音里的那种孤独感又和テルー非常合拍，最后决定テルー的声音也由她来出演
